The part where the user interface was shown was actually an accident, the tester was trying out the Blacklight: Retribution demo on a test kit. It looked as if the game crashed, so we were able to see the tester go through the PS4 interface.

During the crash, the he says, “The kit was actually one of the first test kits to come out, so we will definitely crash. It’s still optimizing. It’s nowhere near alpha, let alone beta..”

Check out the user interface in the footage:

The description of the video said this:

The PS4 can recover from a game crash without locking up.

Games are considered applications and can apparently run alongside other applications (multi-tasking).

If you’re connected to the internet, application information is automatically updated in the dynamic menu.

Note sure about this: The built-in DVR can automatically start up when you start a game? Or maybe when you turn it on it stays on? Maybe it was being used for this livestream? (in which case this is pretty damn good quality).

Remember this was just a early dev kit so you shouldn’t worry about your PS4 crashing like that. The PS4 interface does look sleek and easy to use, but keep in mind that it may not be the final product of the next-gen console.

The PlayStation 4 will come with a bevy of free-to-play titles for anyone who subscribes to PlayStation Plus service. Most of these titles will be available at the launch of the console. Sony is making every effort to ramp up its free-to-play offerings on PlayStation Network with the announcement of its next-gen console.

Read the full PS4 free-to-play list for PS Plus subscribers below.

Warframe

Warframe is a cooperative third-person shooter video game, developed by Digital Extremes. Players control a member of the Tenno, ancient warriors who have awoken from centuries of cryosleep to find themselves in a war with the Grineer, a race of militarized humans, and the Corpus. The Tenno use advanced armor with unique properties, called Warframes in the war against the Grineer and Corpus.

In Warframe, up to 4 players work together to complete missions such as eliminating enemies or retrieving data from terminals. Players can carry a primary weapon (such as a rifle or shotgun), a secondary weapon (usually a pistol), and a melee weapon. Players are given XP (experience points) for killing enemies and completing missions, which allows them to level up their weapons and armor. Each Warframe has 4 different abilities that can be unlocked through the progression system. When equipment is leveled up, it will unlock mod slots, which can improve or add various stats of weapons and armor, as well as general stat bonuses.

Blacklight: Retribution

Blacklight: Retribution is a first-person shooter video game by Zombie Inc. Retribution is the sequel to Blacklight: Tango Down.

Blacklight: Retribution takes place in a science fiction setting and possesses a number of game types and maps. The game currently appears to have no single player other than training and practice mode, pitting players against AI or “bot” enemies. The game types are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination (a ticket type of game), King of the Hill (objective capture), and Kill Confirmed (similar to Team Deathmatch except players collect tokens from their dead opponents and teammates for extra Combat Points). Siege Mode, where one team advances a Scorpion Tank through checkpoints into enemy territory, was added in August 2012. In March 2013, the Onslaught mode was added, in which players collect tokens to gain XP and GP.

During Sony’s E3 press event, the company confirmed that online multiplayer gaming will require users to have PlayStation Plus.

PlayStation Plus subscription cost varies from:

$9.99 for a month

$17.99 for 3 months

$49.99 for a year

Sony confirmed to Polygon today, the two free-to-play MMOs ‘DC Universe Online’ and ‘PlanetSide 2’ will not need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play them.

Creative Director of DC Universe Online Jens Anderson was interviewed during E3 where he said, “We are a free-to-play game; you do not have to pay for PlayStation Plus to play [DC Universe Online].”

November 2011 was when DC Universe came to be a free-to-play title and the company recently announced that they made it possible to where PS3 and PS4 owners share servers, so friends can still play together regardless of their consoles. The plans will be the same for PlanetSide 2 players as well, and both of those games will definitely be available this year.

Developers are making it possible for the PS4 to use a keyboard and mouse on the PlanetSide 2 game. Sony is figuring out ways to transfer leveled up characters from the PC to the PS4, due to the content being the same.

Sony Computer Entertainment President Shuhei Yoshida states, “As far as free-to-play games are concerned, it’s a publisher’s decision whether they put it inside or outside of the PlayStation Plus requirements.”

Blacklight: Retribution and Warframe are two other free-to-play titles that will not require PlayStation Plus for the PS4 to play.

Do you think it’s fair for Sony to do that? Comment your thoughts below.
