Looking to pick up another PlayStation 4 controller? If you’re able to hold out until Fall, you can pick up the new blue PS4 controller officially from Sony. So far, the blue controller will be making its way to the United States.

Known as the Wave Blue PlayStation 4 controller, Sony has revealed that gamers within the United States can pick up the controller this Fall yet there is no indication if the Magma Red PS4 controller variant will be coming to the states.

The controller will cost the same as the standard black. So far this would make five official PlayStation 4 controllers in the works. They are the standard Black, Wave Blue, Magma Red, Urban Camouflage and Glacier White.

Some of us are wondering if there’s more to the Dualshock 4 light bar. What’s the main reason behind that dim light, why was it built to always stay on? Today, Sony revealed the answer to all these question. It now make sense considering that there’s no way of turning off the DualShock 4′s light bar.

Speaking to TechRadar, Jed Ashforth, Senior Designer at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, confirmed that from the start the DualShock 4 light bar was designed to work with Sony’s VR headset Project Morpheus.

“The tracking light… it was our department that said we need that on,” said Ashforth. “It was for tracking for VR.”

“And when all these things were coming out six months ago and everyone was going ‘it’s reflecting in my TV,’ we were going ‘oh no’ because we couldn’t tell anyone what it was for.”

There you have it folks. The light was not designed on the controller to make it look pretty. It’s good to finally know the real reason behind that always on dim light.

What if there was a controller that could read our nervous system? The device could tell when were actively interested in the game or when we’re bored with it. From that indication, it could send it to the video game currently being played where it would alter the gameplay. Here’s the real shocker, it exists and its been developed by Stanford researchers.

Stanford researchers developed a controller that holds detectors. With these detectors, the controller is able to sense your heart rate, blood flow even your breath intake. With this information, researches claimed that they can tell if the player is interested in the game or not.

Developers have stated that this information could allow video game developers to alter the gameplay. For instance, if the controller senses that the player is getting too comfortable, then the game could add new enemies or obstacles. While if parents are concerned with their kids playing too much video games, the controller could help regulate gameplay. Imagine horror titles, the controller would allow the developers to alter the game to make a truly terrifying experience.

There’s no word on if the controller would be a consumer product or how much a controller would even cost. Though more information on the controller cane be found in the video below and the Stanford news release.

Back in January of this year, an owner of the PlayStation 4 console tweeted out to Sony’s Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida. The tweet simply asked if a future update would allow gamers to turn off the Dualshock 4 lightbar when it was not in use. To much surprise, Shuhei Yoshida had no interest and completely shut the idea down. Now it seems that Yoshida has a sudden change of heart.

During GDC, video game journalist Geoff Keighley, announced through Twitter that Yoshida is allowing an update to dim the PS4 lightbar. This means while you can’t turn the lightbar completely off, you can dim it for better viewing experience.

The main reason why some gamers are having a problem with the lightbar was the glare on some TV displays. During gameplay, a bright light can be seen on the TV which can of course get annoying to deal with it when you’re trying to play your favorite video game. By access to dim the lightbar, perhaps this will solve several gamers issues with the TV display glare.

Sony is trying to incorporate AR (Augmented Reality) to make the PlayStation experience as real as possible. This is obvious as the company has patented a new kind of transposable controller which can be configured by the player for different experiences.

The AR controller requires a camera to be enabled and the concept is that players make use of the controller to form and replicate shapes of a variety of objects for different situations in games and follow their motion respectively.

The patent includes diagrams of the controller not only being used as a shotgun, rifle, and knife but also as a humanoid kicking a football or a flying bat.

For tech-enthusiasts, more in-depth information about this patent is available on NeoGAF.

There is not confirmation that Sony will bring out a new controller based on this patent, but it does seem to have the potential to work around with The Playroom via PlayStation Camera. What are your thoughts on this new innovating patent? Let us know your reactions below.

You may blame it on yourself but how could you of ever known that if you just went a little faster around that corner, or stepped on the gas a little more you would of made it. This my friends, is how controllers are broken.
