Speaking  with Rockstar North studio president Leslie Benzies, confirmed that over 1,000 staff members  have worked on GTA V.

“It’s probably more, much more. It takes 1,000 people to make a game, that’s a requirement. And that’s because of the size of the thing, we are modelling at such a minute detail. Once upon a time the car models have four moving parts. Now there are 15 alone in a car’s retractable roof. The detail is ten, twenty times greater than GTA IV, so it takes ten, twenty times more people.”

The game previously exceeded  approximately $800 million  worldwide within 24 hours on its launch-day in sales, making it  “the highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the Company and the Grand Theft Auto series”

With a $1 billion record in its first 3 days,  this means that Grand Theft Auto V  is the fastest  entertainment product of all time. Not even movies or other video games has reached this huge milestone in just 3 days.

According to Take-Two’s report,  GTA V  marks “the highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the Company and the Grand Theft Auto series”  Even though the sells figure does not include the upcoming launch in  Japan and Brazil.

They also confirmed  GTA IV exceeds 3.6 million units on its opening day, with retailer included, approximately $310 million worldwide.

“All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two.”

“Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called ‘the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment’. Rockstar’s Dan Houser has  confirmed they have no plan  whether  GTA V  will port on the PlayStation 4 just yet. Meaning  a port for PS4  is possible but not just yet. I’m sure  Rockstar is definitely hiding something from us considering they are  highly interested in the new hardware, but who know what they have in mind  waiting for us.

Speaking with  The Guardian, According to Houser,  the company is highly  interested in the new system  hardware but unfortunately, a plans for next-gen is not  just yet, as nothing is currently in the pipeline.

“Of course we’re interested. But no, not in terms of GTA, because we’re always working on the current game. We look at the tech at a more practical level: what will be ready for which game that we’re working on further down the line. We don’t have another GTA in development, we don’t work on three of these games at a time. That would be phenomenally depressing.

“So, in terms of GTA, no. We get pitched by the hardware manufacturers on what they’re planning to do and our tech guys come up with ideas on how that could be used. Does this influence design decisions. Of course. But we’re not sat there fantasising about 10 years down the line. We’re so busy with what we’re doing right now.”

Scottish newspaper The Scotsman claims that Rockstar’s spent £170 million. This total includes the total cost of developing, producing and marketing which will be about budget  $265 million budget.

Compared to Hollywood movies, this game budget makes it “the equivalent of blockbuster films”. The report also claims that Grand Theft Auto V will most likely sell over  25 million copies in its first year , which will be about $1.57 billion.

GTA V has received more than 2.5 million pre-orders ahead of its launch date. It’ll release on September 17 for PS3.

“In the game there’s these rival gangs. There’s Black gangs, Latino gangs, We recruited a guy who gets gang member, actual real gang members, like El Salvadoran gang dude with amazing tattoos, one of which had literally gotten out of prison the day before.

“We get these guys int to record the gang characters because we don’t want a goofy LA actor who went to a fancy school trying to be a hard gang member. There’s nothing worse than that, so just go find the terrifying people and say ‘can you come in here please?’”

During the sessions, the newly recruited voice actors had some problems with the lines they were to read. Lazlow told them to ad lib, calling his own writing “irrelevant” in the name of authenticity. I’m often fascinated by what parts of the experience developers feel must be authentic in a game where you can drive off a ramp during a high speed car chase and switch between the twenty different weapons that are in your pockets.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to PlayStation 3 in less than two weeks on September 17th.
