The popularity that the Grand Theft Auto series attained is in many ways a product of the mass fan following the unique characters that were introduced in the games of the series received. Each of the main protagonists of the multitude of games in GTA have achieved the aforementioned fame in their own rights. We do hope that the erstwhile GTA V that releases soon will continue the tradition.

In this feature today, we have compiled a list of the most badass characters that have ever graced the GTA series. Let’s have a look.

Tommy Vercetti

Tommy Vercetti is the main protagonist and playable character in GTA Vice City. The character of Tommy is portrayed as a tall, handsome 6′ 3.5″ guy with combed dark hair. When he first appears in the game, Tommy is shown wearing a light blue-green Hawaiian shirt with dark blue palm trees printed on it, a Gold necklace around his neck, a gold watch around his left wrist, and a pair of blue jeans and white sneakers.

Tommy Vercetti is portrayed as temperamental and intelligent, who is violent and easily angered. He does not have a softer side which comes to fore in his dealings with the other notable characters in the game, Mercedes Cortez and Earnest Kelly.

Tommy is one of the most popular and loved GTA characters that has ever graced the series. He achieved a massive fan following because of his badass attitude and was liked by each and all. Badass to the brink, this one.

CJ

Carl ‘CJ’ Johnson is the main playable protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. He is the leader of the Grove Street Families of Los Santos. Of all the characters of GTA, few can compare to the badass that CJ is.

In the game, CJ is portrayed as a much rational and less violent character than the previous protagonists of the GTA series. Example may be taken here of the genuine remorse CJ feels when killing his fellow Grove Street members. CJ’s appearance is highly customizable as the game progresses.

The attitude and appearance of CJ was highly instrumental in attaining the mass fan following that the character of CJ enjoyed. He had the in-built quality to come on the top of any situation that was given to him by his adversaries. Arguably, the most badass player ever.

Nico Bellic

Nico Bellic is one of the most interesting and complex characters ever in the GTA series. When the game released, IGN was ready to label Niko as one of the greatest video game characters ever to grace the console world.

The game is all about the character of Niko seeking a better life for himself while coming to terms with his inner demons. Nico is portrayed as a very down-to-earth business person, very protective of his family and friends. Appearance wise, Nico appears to be a very decent person with sophisticated manners.

Niko Bellic attained mass appeal because of the refreshing characteristics that were brought upon by the deviations from the previous characters in the series. One awesomely badass character in the series.

Michael, Franklin and Trevor Philips

Though GTA V is yet to arrive, we cannot resist the temptation to put the protagonists under the scanner and compare them from whatever we know about them, with their predecessors. Lets have a look at the (surely) badass characters of GTA V.

Michael is in his early 40′s and is a father of two with a wife named Amanda. He met Trevor Philips at a young age and became partners in crime and great friends. In the game Michael makes a return to the life of crime after many years of retirement.

The background story that surrounds Franklin is that he never had a good family background or any significant money in the family to speak of. He opted for a life of crime and met Michael and did a job together. He saw the spark in Michael and took him under his wing and later introduced him to Trevor Philips.

Trevor Philips is a filthy individual by appearance. He has a military background and previously served as a jaeger pilot and then turned to a life of crime, becoming best friends with Michael in the process.

All the three main protagonists have been attributed with a unique special ability. Michael can slow down time in a gunfight; Franklin can slow down time while driving. Trevor’s special ability is to deal extra damage, or take less damage; he can also perform a unique melee attack when the special meter is activated.

The three new characters in or favorite game series show every characteristic that impacts how badass the particular character is considered. We just have to wait a few more weeks to know the rest.

These are our choices of the characters that are the most badass in the GTA series. What do you think? Do you agree? Feel free to express your opinion in the comments below and also let us know if we have given one of your favorite characters a miss.

In our columns, we have featured many games that have been acclaimed critically and commercially. The games we have discussed so far are the ones that have been the creamy layer of the gaming industry. But today we put before you something very different.

Our feature today throws light on the console games that have been rated as the worst ever. These are the games that have failed miserably in all aspects, be it commercially or popularity wise. Lets have a look at the games which went terribly wrong.

1. Rogue Warrior

Developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Bethesda Softworks, Rogue Warrior is a first person shooter video game. The game was released on November 26, 2009.

In the game, the player assumes control of U.S. Navy SEAL Richard “Demo Dick” Marcinko. The focus of gameplay is primarily on Marcinko’s over the top methods and signature execution moves used in war situations. There are over twenty five finishing moves available to player and are termed as ‘kill moves’. When a finishing move is executed, the in-game camera shifts to a third person cinematic angle to show the move.

The game received a huge amount of negative reviews from critics and gamers. In the words of GameSpot,”This dreadfully boring, expletive-filled, extremely short shooter is an absolute rip-off.” It was one of the worst games of 2009 because of its poor controls, glitches, foul language, uninteresting gameplay and an overall bad feel and overview. It is ranked as the fourth worst rated video game of all time according to GameRankings. Definitely one to stay away from.

2. The Fight: Lights Out

The Fight: Lights Out is a 2010 action fighting video game developed by ColdWood Interactive exclusively for the PS3. The game utilizes the PlayStation move controllers.

The Fight: Lights Out has a predominantly black and white setting with bright red blood. The player takes control of a character to have a one-on-one fight with another character. The PlayStation Move is used in real time to fight. There are a total of twenty three moves available to the player.

The game was not well received. IGN reviewed the game to be ”a mess that is not only frustrating to play – it is also tiring and boring”. It had a very short survival span and faded away because of uninteresting gameplay. Give this one a miss.

3. The Punisher: No Mercy

Developed by Zen Studios, The Punisher: No Mercy is an arena based first person shooter that was released on July 2, 2009 exclusively to the PSN Store.

There were four arenas available in the game at launch. Also, to convey a sense of realism, the player is only able to carry three weapons. The story mode is playable on different game types and consists of four matches. There is a total of eight playable characters with unique abilities. The game also includes local multiplayer and online play.

The Punisher: No Mercy was criticized for its short length and difficulty of unlocking. In the words of IGN,”The Punisher: No Mercy is a pretty bad game all around. (…) There’s just not really anything to like here, unfortunately.” Not a good game overall in any way and definitely one to give the miss.

4. Kung-Fu Rider

Developed by Japan Studio as a PS3 exclusive, Kung-Fu Rider is a action video game which utilizes the PlayStation Move. It was released on September, 2010.

Players assume the role of either Toby or Karin in the game. Toby is a private investigator and Karin is his secretary. The objective of the game is to navigate through the crowded streets of Hong Kong on a office chair, using the Move controller. Players can cruise through the streets hopping over cars and other obstacles while picking money and other bonuses along the way.

Although the concept was an innovative one, it failed to make an impact. The concept was termed silly by some. The game is considered to be one of the worst exclusive PlayStation 3 games ever. IGN gave it a rating of 3.5/10. Definitely one to make the worst games’ list.

5. Lair

Developed by Factor 5 and published by SCE America, Lair is a single player action video game released in 2007.

The player assumes the role of Rohn Partridge, a dragon-riding knight, who is tasked with various mission-based objectives like eliminating enemies, destroying certain objects etc. The game relies heavily on PS3′s sixaxis motion controls. Most of the battles in the game are air-based combats with occasional ground combat thrown-in.

When the game was being developed, it managed to capture the attention of gamers because of its stunning graphics. However, upon release, the game was designated as a critical and commercial failure. The game was heavily criticized for its control scheme and managed to grab the #8 spot on GT’s Top Ten Most Disappointing Games of the Decade. A game not good enough to be playable; one to give the miss.

6. Haze

Developed by Free Radical Design and published by Ubisoft for the PS3, Haze is a first person shooter video game that was released worldwide in 2008.

The game revolves around a drug called Nectar that allows soldiers to fight harder and smarter, but has hallucinogenic side-effects. The drug has control over what the soldiers see as they view a idyllic, painless environment around them. In the game, the soldiers make the use of Nectar to take on enemies, the setting being a dystopian future with war raging on in the background.

The game was criticized for having shallow and stereotypical characters and quirky AI reactions. It also had a majority of glitches and a very short single player campaign. Eurogamer went to the length of calling it ”this year’s most significant gaming disappointment”. IGN also criticized the ”horrible plot, weak gameplay mechanics and visuals that are truly underwhelming. Tons of visual issues abound within the game from texture tears and non-descript environments to pop-in and odd animation problems.”

With so much emphasis laid on the negative aspects, this is definitely one of the worst games to grace the console world.

These are the games that have the dubious distinction of being the worst console games ever. Treat this as a warning and do stay away from these games if you value your time and money. Also, do let us know your views on the list of games that we have compiled for you today. Your feedback, as always, is welcome.

The PlayStation 3 through the years has been a hub for the most popular FPS games that have graced the gaming world. Most have seen a survival as a series. Compiled here is a list of 6 First Person Shooters that you should definitely play on the console.

We might have left out a lot of FPS titles you personally enjoy, but these six titles are a definite must try if you own a PlayStation 3 console. Without further chit chat, here’s the list below.

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Developed by Treyarch and published by Activision (Japan release by Square Enix), Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a FPS that has gained much popularity in the PS3 as a medium.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops II is the first game in the Call of Duty franchise to feature future warfare technology. The storyline of the game undergoes different branching according to the choices the player makes. The game, along with its counterpart released for the Vita Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified, became one of the highest grossing games of all times making more that $500 million.

One of the most popular and successful of games in the FPS, definitely one to play in the PS4.

2. Dead Island

One for the Zombie fans, Dead Island is an action role-playing survival horror video game. Published by Deep Silver and published by Techland, the storyline of the game revolves around surviving in a Zombie infested island. The gameplay is based primarily on combat and completing quests.

With a intriguing gameplay, like having different types of Zombies having different characteristics, the game attained much fan following as makes the list in any listing of games to be played in on the PS3. A must-play for zombie fans.

3. Battlefield 3

The eleventh installment in the series, Battlefield 3 is a first person shooter published by EA and developed by EA Digital Illusions CE, a direct sequel to 2005′s Battlefield 2.

One of the most critically acclaimed, the game sold 5 million copies in the first week of release. The player attains a persona of various military factions like a U.S. Marine, an F18 weapons system officer, an M1A2 Abrams tank operator, and a Spetsnaz GRU operative. The game contains single player, co-op and multiplayer modes.

With good storylines, multiplayer and co-op elements, Battlefield 3 is a must have in the games collection.

4. Killzone 3

Developed by Guerrilla Games exclusively for the PS3, Killzone 3 is the fourth installment in the Killzone series. The gameplay resembles Killzone 2 but has many enhancements and tweaks fostered by the inclusion of the PS Move in the gameplay.

The gameplay environs are Arctic landscapes, a lethal alien jungle, nuclear wastelands as well as space battles in addition to the elements present in Killzone 2. The single player is playable and the multiplayer is engaging. The multiplayer aspect of the game contains elements like Guerilla Warfare, Warzone, and Operations game modes.

A thoroughly playable game, definitely one to play.

5. Medal of Honor: Warfighter

Developed by Danger Close Games and published by Electronic Arts, Medal of Honor: Warfighter is a direct sequel to 2010′s series reboot Medal of Honor. It is overall the fourteenth installment in the Medal of Honor series.

The Medal of Honor series has seen a vast fan following through the years, from the era of the PS2. Though the game has faced much criticism from the reboot, fans of the series definitely cannot keep themselves away from the game.

6. Resistance series

What’s a FPS list on PS3 without mentioning the Resistance series of games. Insomniac’s series which has seen three titles exclusive to the console offers you with a amazing FPS experience. The games, especially Resistance 3 is worth a try for every FPS lover out there. Killing Chimera is rewarding and the story isn’t too bad as well.

Here is our choice of the 6 FPS games you should play on the PS3. Feedback is welcome from your side. We would be much pleased to hear your views on any other notable choice of games.

Sony has upped the ante in the war of the consoles by producing a next generation console which looks much more promising than its counterpart manufactured by Microsoft.

The PlayStation 4 has almost floored the Xbox One, be it game-wise or add-ons or facility-wise. Here is our pick of 6 reasons why the PS4 is better than the Xbox One.

1. No mandatory camera

To play games on the PS4, you do not necessarily require the PlayStation Eye. It is an accessory, the choice to use which depends on the gamer. However, on the other hand, the Xbox One requires the Kinect in order to play each and every game. Games don’t start in the absence of a Kinect.

You do not rejoice the feeling that someone is watching you all the time, do you? That is why PS4 is way better.

2. Cost

While the PS4 is being priced at $399, the Xbox One has a price tag of $499. This substantial price difference will go a long way in attracting gamers who are getting the same specs at a much lower price in the PS4. This in turn will provide a huge boost to the sales of the PS4 at launch as gamers will definitely prefer the cheaper version.

Price matters. A $100 difference cannot by any means be ignored. The PS4 scores in this aspect.

3. PS4 global launch likely at release

The PS4 is most likely to have a global release at launch, as judged from the fact that Sony is targeting a simultaneous launch of the PS4 in India alongside other European countries. On the other hand, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will be releasing in only 21 countries at launch.

If PS4 global launch becomes a reality, Sony is all set to capture the global market, leaving the Xbox One far behind in terms of sales and popularity.

4. GPU power

The PlayStation 4 has a significantly high GPU power compared to the Xbox One which amounts to about 50% more. The PS4 uses 8GB of GDDR5 memory with a bandwidth of 176GB/sec as opposed to the Xbox One with its 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

Better processing power results in seamless gameplay and better graphics. The core is what matters for hardcore gamers.

5. Support for Indie games

Sony endeavors in providing smaller, unique gaming experiences to the PS4. As many as eight indie titles debuted during Sony’s press conference at E3 2013. The Indie games that debuted for the PS4 included Transistor, the next game from Bastion developer Supergiant Games; Klei Entertainment’s Don’t Starve; Tribute Games’ Mercenary Kings; Octodad: Deadliest Catch from Young Horses, a studio comprised of DePaul University graduates and Switchblade Monkeys’ Secret Ponchos. However, Indie developers won’t be able to self publish games on the Xbox One. They will need publishers to get their games into the Xbox One.

The PlayStation 4 is much better in this respect as a variety of games, both by publishers and interesting games by Indie developers can be enjoyed by the gamers without any hassles.

6. PS4 is better looking, better named

As a personal opinion, the design of the PS4 is much more pleasing to the eye than the Xbox One. The controller, the console, together form a perfectly harmonious unit which gels well with any surroundings you put it in.

Moreover, the name PlayStation 4 sticks and provides a proper idea about the generation the console belongs to. Xbox One is a name which can easily be confused by new gamers as being the first console of a brand.

These are our pick of the reasons that make the PS4 a more viable option than the Xbox One. You are welcome to contradict us if you please but we sincerely hope that you agree. Do let us know your views below.

The series that is GTA has seen a bevy of vehicles which have been our favorites in their own rights. Vehicles and their reckless albeit usefulness has been a trademark of GTA since the beginning of the series.

Compiled here is a list of the most amazing and popular vehicles that we have seen in Grand Theft Auto through the years.

1. Comet

Modelled on the Porsche 911, the Comet is a mainstay that appears in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and Grand Theft Auto V.

It was also speculated that the Comet was inspired by a Datsun 240Z because GTA III era renditions of the Comet are front-engined, unlike the real Porsche 911, which is famously rear-engined. The car is arguably the best car in the GTA series having top notch acceleration, speed, braking, and handling. In the GTA III era, the Comet enabled the protagonist to jump over the driver’s side door because of its top-down convertible nature.

The most used and probably the most famous car of GTA, the Comet still remains a favorite.

2. Sabre GT

The Sabre GT is a 2-door muscle coup that is present in Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Grand Theft Auto V.

The design of the Sabre GT borrows bits and pieces from many American muscle cars like the ’68/’69 Chevrolet Chevelles, the 1970 AMC Rebel, the 1970 Buick GSX and the 1969 Dodge Coronet. The Sabre GT is a turbo-charged version of the Sabre, also a vehicle of the game. With a 9-litre (550 ci) V8, the car is all about American muscle and power, popular with like minded gamers.

American muscle cars have their own fanbase. Definitely one of the most loved vehicles of the game.

3. The Patriot

The Patriot is an off road/utility vehicle that is a mainstay almost throughout the GTA series. One of the most powerful and sturdy vehicles of the GTA series, the Patriot is AM General Motors HMMWV, a Hummer H1, and a Hummer H2.

With a high ground clearance, the Patriot and its different variants throughout the series has been popular because of its off-road capabilities and durability. Hummer fans definitely choose this vehicle.

4. Freeway

The mortorcycle, Freeway makes an appearance in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto IV.

Resembling a classic Harley-Davidson, the freeway provides one of the most enjoyable bike rides in the GTA series and is the best for cruising in the city. Due to its weight, the bike is not suitable for off-roading but provides a very comfortable ride.

My favorite bike of the GTA series, the Freeway is the bike to ride into the sunset.

5. Predator

As far as boats are concerned, the Predator is the most popular one which makes an appearance in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto IV.

Primarily a police vehicle, the Predator distinguishes itself from other boats which are a lot faster than it by possessing built-in .50 caliber machine guns on both sides of the hull, the same as a Police Maverick helicopter of the series.

Water carnage, anyone?

6. Maverick

The Maverick is a civilian helicopter Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto:V. Though it appears in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, it is not intended for player use.

Arguably the best means of transport in the GTA world, the Maverick is based on the Bell 206 L Longranger, the GTA IV version being based on the Bell 407. Many other variants of the Maverick are present but the essence remains the same.

A no-nonsense transportation vehicle, the Maverick remains a most used vehicle in the GTA till date.

These are our choices of the favorite and most popular vehicles in the Grand Theft Auto series. Do let us know your choices and if you would like to add something to the list, feel free to do so in the comments below.

When you first hear the term “gamer girl” what do people usually think of?

It is the walking sandwich maker that knows how to hold a controller. Boys can’t help but flirt with her when her voice echoes on the other end of the server. It is the camera slore that posts a picture of ninety percent boob and five percent controller, on Facebook for likes. She must be a fat slob with potato chips in her moustache because she is at the top of the scoreboard. These are some of the common conceptions.

Well whatever you think this “gamer girl” is, we are here to rule the world and drive the male species to slavery. I know sandwiches are delicious but c’mon, that comeback is overused. I mean, couldn’t you guys ask for anything better like a steak dinner? Or maybe even some soup along with that bread with meat you want all the time.

Okay first of all, I have to get this off my chest. I hate the term “gamer girl”, I seriously hate that term because it has become some label. The term can be negative or positive, depending on how the person perceives gamer girls. Don’t ask me if I am a girl when I go in to a lobby, especially when my name has Miss/Lady/Girl in the Username. I will just say “no I’m actually a unicorn” and tape a hotdog to my forehead just so you will shut up.

I am in a Lady Clan that consists of over 30 girls, so this perspective is not only from me; it is also from the many other girls that I listen to. When we go into a lobby the response is usually mixed. The guys that we play against are either gentlemen or the spawn of extremely sexist Satan.

The words that these guys use against us are getting old, like we’ve heard the same crap over and over again, it is becoming ineffective. I would seriously be more offended if you called me a buttered toast. Just like every other person playing games online, we love to piss you off, that way we know we are doing better than you.

We girls don’t care if you have a better k/d ratio, get the last kill cam, or know how to do the helicopter. We are here to game and have fun, not to listen to people who don’t even know our names. The thesis here is, we play games for us, not you. We are actually nice people, but if you poke us with a stick, we will tear your face off. Kidding, but you get the point.

Obviously I have more to say, but I’m not going to give you my whole cake. Tell us what you think about this article and even ideas for the next one.

As an added bonus, here’s some of my favorite “gamer girl” memes from the internet; for the lolz.

Addressing concerns that the PlayStation is already obsolete, or will be obsolete in the coming years, chief system architect Mark Cerny stated that in some ways this rapid evolution actually “plays in favor of consoles”.

Cerny stated that, “Many of the teams take about five years to develop a game. As a result, they need a stable specification during that period and that is what a console provides, ie about one hundred million devices that share the same basic specification.

“The console also tends to have higher performance than would be expected by the cost due to a lightweight operating system and the fact that developers enjoy many years to study the specific architecture.

“Regarding the performance issue in the context of Moore’s Law, our strategy has been to create a console with a number of features for the short term and others for the long term. We have a family basic feature set that allows a wide range of games at launch, and we’ve done a great job of matching the GPU that we believe will allow the system to grow over the years,” Cerny said in an interview.

He further explained that by using shaders, the PlayStation 4 will still be able to render high quality graphics in the next three to four years.

“To give just one example, we have adapted the ‘hardware’ to allow the ‘shaders’ computing are used in traditional graphics interface. This is the kind of technique that we believe will be used within three or four years of the life cycle of the console to increase the graphical quality of the games,” Cerny stated.
