Speaking  with Rockstar North studio president Leslie Benzies, confirmed that over 1,000 staff members  have worked on GTA V.

“It’s probably more, much more. It takes 1,000 people to make a game, that’s a requirement. And that’s because of the size of the thing, we are modelling at such a minute detail. Once upon a time the car models have four moving parts. Now there are 15 alone in a car’s retractable roof. The detail is ten, twenty times greater than GTA IV, so it takes ten, twenty times more people.”

GTA V launched September 17th worldwide  for the PS3.

“For a game to sell 60 percent of its first year units in just three days would be abnormally high; we estimate that Call of Duty sells about 45-50 percent of its first year units in its first week at retail. However, for now we are assuming that GTA 5 sales will be extremely front-loaded due to high gamer anticipation, and will also have a shorter sales tail given the launch of next-gen consoles in November.”

Creutz expects the game will be at around 25 million copies sold within its first year on store shelves.

“Given the significantly higher installed base of relevant console platforms at launch, greater sales concentration among the top video game franchises, and unprecedented pentup demand, we expect GTA 5 to outpace GTA 4 sales, and generate roughly $1 billion in retail sales during the first month.”

That will be quite a feat. Grand Theft Auto 4 shipped 11 million units in its first month back in April 2008 and so far has sold 25 million copies since launch.

Call of Duty regularly manages 20 million units year, so it’s easy to see that after a five year absence that Grand Theft Auto could easily match and exceed that.

Players can expect heists, hijackings, robberies, racing and everything else one expects to find in a Grand Theft Auto title. I’m sure there you can also play golf in multiplayer as well.

There are various factions in the game and being on good terms with them will have benefits in the Online section of the game. For instance, if you befriend a technical wizard, he’ll ensure that you don’t turn up on enemy radar throughout the objective. Or a gang of bikers will lend support fighter in a mission. You can also turn on passive mode, which means you can avoid attacks from other players. Firing a weapon will automatically turn that off though.

GTA Online will go live October 1st. GTA V will launch on the PS3 on September 17th.

We couldn’t find the tweet itself and it is very similar to the earlier scan, sans the more details zoomed in sections. Whether it is legitimate from Rockstar itself or not, it is still the map for GTA5.

These commercials are immediate in their satire, making fun of energy bar commercials, Spike and a Power Rangers spoof that got me laughing out loud. Enjoy.

“In the game there’s these rival gangs. There’s Black gangs, Latino gangs, We recruited a guy who gets gang member, actual real gang members, like El Salvadoran gang dude with amazing tattoos, one of which had literally gotten out of prison the day before.

“We get these guys int to record the gang characters because we don’t want a goofy LA actor who went to a fancy school trying to be a hard gang member. There’s nothing worse than that, so just go find the terrifying people and say ‘can you come in here please?’”

During the sessions, the newly recruited voice actors had some problems with the lines they were to read. Lazlow told them to ad lib, calling his own writing “irrelevant” in the name of authenticity. I’m often fascinated by what parts of the experience developers feel must be authentic in a game where you can drive off a ramp during a high speed car chase and switch between the twenty different weapons that are in your pockets.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to PlayStation 3 in less than two weeks on September 17th.
