The developer making the statements is Ru Weerasuriya, the founder/boss of the company Ready at Dawn, best known for their God of War games on the PSP and currently working on the PS4 Exclusive The Order: 1886.

As a strong advocate of the video game industry, Weerasuriya was at last month’s E3 event promoting the new game, and giving a very interesting interview in which he bashed Gamestop’s business practices of making money from used games.

Weerasuriya states, “I think the problem is right now there are retail outlets that are really taking everybody for a ride. You can’t make a living at the expense of everybody else.”

He explains how the practices not only hurt the developers, but the consumers as well.

“Unfortunately, they’re not just making a living at the expense of developers but also the consumers because the consumers will see less and less games come out if developers can’t get revenue to make more new titles and keep going as a business,”

The developer goes on to tell a story, “I walked into a GameStop, asked for a new copy of a game and without telling me [the store clerk] tried to slip me a used copy and wanted to sell it to me for $5 less,

“I flipped out in front of the guy. I was like, ‘Dude, wrong guy… You’re doing this to the wrong guy’… There are developers out there who are making games for [years] and some of them will go down purely because the revenue stream is basically flawed and creating this place where developers don’t see even a little part of it.”

He continues for a solution, “I don’t think we should stop used games, but we should do something about getting part of the revenue back from GameStop and places like that. That’s not penalizing consumers; they’ll still get what they want.”

Do you agree/disagree with the developer? Comment below.

At this year’s E3, Sony held a theatrical presentation of the upcoming Drive Club game where they discussed all the things that were possible due to the PS4. The Director of Evolution Studios Col Rodgers was there to talk about the new game’s capabilities in the 25 minute presentation.

“The thing is though, none of this will be great without the awesome graphics fidelity. The PlayStation 4 is quite simply the most powerful console from the graphics point of view that’s ever existed. And you know we are proud to actually make use of that. Some of the things that you actually see in the Drive Club demo like the accurately simulated clouds, they are random every single time you play the game.

“In addition, during the day, none of the lighting is baked in to the game at all, everything is live so if you want to be in a certain geographical location within a certain a time of day, that will appear exactly as it would in real life,”

One of the most interesting parts of the presentation was how the studio was able to make every single thing in the game perfect. Even the stars in the sky will be exactly how you see it in real life.

He states, “In addition to that we have gone to such lengths, that we have actually have the stars correctly mapped in the sky. Which means when you look out you will see your favorite constellations, if you have one.”

A representative of GamingBolt was at the live event where he came across the lead car artist Neon, where he was inspecting one of the car models and rejected that car because “the wrong size screw heads were built in to the floor mats and it won’t do.”

It just goes to show us how serious developers of Evolution Studios are about perfection in their next-gen games. They have even informed us that the roads in the game will be modified real life tracks we have today. With the technology of DEM data, they are able to develop the exact landscape measurements that will be seen in the Drive Club game.

How do you fans feel about the work Evolution Studios is putting into their game?

Madden NFL 25 is a promise to gamers who stuck with the series and begged for more gameplay options and features.

On the PS4, it’s a glimpse into the future. With new gameplay, visual engines, and a brand-new step-based locomotion system, Electronic Arts believes the pigskin action will never be the same.

“There’s that wow factor when you pick up the controller,” said Electronic Arts Football General Manager Cam Weber. “It feels amazing.”

A celebration of 25 years of the franchise, EA Sports spent significant time developing a next generation football game they felt would change the genre. The IGNITE gameplay engine will have approximately 300 “live” characters on both sidelines, reacting to the action, as well as a crowd that looks more “real” than the cardboard cut-outs and static virtual fans gamers have become accustomed to seeing over the years.

The new True Step Locomotion system also promises a better rushing game. Madden 2013 focused heavily on passing and True Step, combined with the enhanced A.I. offensive linemen, as well as defensive players. The end result, Weber says, is a more authentic and instinctual game of football, with authentic route running, more realistic downfield blocking, and better moving player models.

“Every individual step in our game is calculated,” Weber said. “In previous games, there were a lot of looping and repeating running animations, without a lot of fidelity in terms of what each individual step would do. Now, with the power of the new consoles, we can make a lot of calculations with every single frame. There will be a precision to every footstep.”

But what about the current consoles? Regardless of the effort the company has put into the next generation version of Madden, EA Sports said all the work on the PS4 edition actually helped refine what may be the last hurrah for the series on the PS3.

Weber said that the run-blocking and locomotion system on the PS3 will be markedly improved because EA was able to transfer over “tidbits” of the new technology to the current generation version. With those improvements and the new and developed gameplay modes such as the “Connected Franchise” and “Owner Mode,” EA Sports is confident they haven’t left PS3 owners out to pasture.

“We wanted to deliver on the promises,” said Weber. “We wanted to add all the depth and polish. 25 years of innovation make Madden 25 the most polished experience we could.”

One tactic that Microsoft has been using to boost the importance of their Xbox One, has been to combine the console with the power of cloud computing. Apparently, the Xbox One will be four times more powerful, due to cloud computing which explains why the device must always be online. The official website for the Xbox One states, “thanks to the power of the cloud, Xbox One will keep getting better.”

Will the PS4 have this power of cloud computing? President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida says “of course”, they will have this revolutionary cloud computing on its upcoming PS4 as well. Teaming up with Gaikai, the PS4 will be able to stream games from generations before due to the cloud computing.

Yoshida tells Polygon, “Linking, matchmaking… there are already many computations being done on the cloud side.”

Even though the PS4 doesn’t require the user to have an online connection, the president says, “if your title needs [an] online connection to provide some online features: Go for it.”

The Gaikai technology on the PS4 will be available sometime after the console is released.

So it seems that both consoles have the power of cloud computing, but which one will be better overall?

The battle between Microsoft and Sony for the next best generation of gaming has been growing ever since rumors emerged, and press conferences gave us insights into the next gaming evolution.

Many fans out there do enjoy the war that is going on between the two major companies but others may find it quite annoying.

Just imagine how it would be like if there was only one gaming company. Everyone in the gaming industry wouldn’t be as successful as they are today, if they did not have one another to compete against.

Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore of EA discusses why the two major companies competing, is good for the gaming industry.

Moore talks with Polygon at E3, “It keeps them focused. They have to outdo each other,” he said. “The amount of investment they make in our industry is important. If it’s true that Microsoft has some catching up to do, having spent a lot of time in Redmond, Washington, I know what will happen up there. I can guarantee you that Don Mattrick has the resources corralled to make that happen. Steve Ballmer will be driving that hard from the top.

“The dust will settle on E3. People are going to declare winners and losers. It’s just the nature of the beast. Then you have the critical period, which I’ve run twice. E3 is over. Now it’s launch minus 122 days. It’s less about what you see at first blush at E3, where you’re still working in a lot of instances with alpha software, or even pre-alpha. What you’re going to see at Gamescom, which I think is going to be a very important show this year.

“Late August, if you’re not cranking on next gen in late August and that stuff isn’t looking truly next gen, then you have a real issue you have to be able to deal with.”

Since EA is one of the major third-party publishers; they are relied on for evaluations towards the two major companies.

Moore says, “We’ve been around the block a lot longer, in a lot of instances, than their teams have. We’ve seen it from both sides. They will, I think, represent our opinion on things very aggressively in their meetings. They’ll be interested in what we have to say. That’ll add to their data [along with public opinion].

“They have to get all that data in and figure out where they go from here. That’s pretty standard operating procedure when you go post-E3. You don’t spend the money and not have a full official debrief when you get back. What have we learned, what do we need to do, and when do we need to do it so we get our launch right?

“I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to say to Don [Mattrick] because I can see that headline: ‘Moore Says – Don, Get Your Shit Together’. That’s not what I’m going to say. But I was in Don’s position [before]. They will do what they need to do. It’s a very talented group of people.

“You’ve got two very motivated, large, multinational, global corporations saying: ‘We’ve gotta get this right. What is it going to take financially?’ It feels good if you’re sat in the middle of that.”

E3 2013 marked the blow that the Xbox One received from the PS4 but there is still months away till the consoles are officially released, so we know that it’s not over yet.

If there was only one gaming company, would the consoles and games be amazing as they are today? Comment below.

When the Xbox One console is released this November, it won’t be supported in Poland and Portugal because they are considered ‘unsupported regions’ they would have to wait for the console to be available for their locations, because their Xbox Live account won’t be able to activate their games.

News broke out on this when a man that likely resided in one of those two countries, asked an Xbox support worker a couple questions on twitter and was not pleased with the support’s response.

A man named Robert Hallahan asks “Does the Xbox One disclaimer imply you won’t be able to authenticate a disc-based game if not in one of the 21 countries?”

Phil, the Xbox support worker responds, “They would want to wait until the console is available in their region.”

He then asks another question, “But say someone from Poland, not listed, imports it from the UK. Will they be able to play disc-based games?”

The Microsoft employee again answers, “They would want to wait until the console is available in their region.”

This conversation is one of many that similar topics that are being questioned on Xbox Support Twitter page. Users have been posting screenshots of their questions and answers on a NeoGAF forum, and giving their input in the situation.

This situation is pretty ironic considering that Microsoft invited a Polish developer from CD Projekt Red to speak at their E3 press conference for their upcoming Witcher 3: Wild Hunt title. The developer forgot to mention that the game won’t even be playable through the Xbox One on his homeland when it releases.

When asked about the situation, the developer recommends for users to wait for further information and refrained from answering any more about the issue.

Microsoft has confirmed to Eurogamer Poland that their region would be available 2014, whereas Eurogamer Portugal says their region will unlikely be available this Fall but Microsoft will try its best to make it available in 2014.

The 21 countries that are supported for launch are:

Australia

Austria

Belgium

Brazil

Canada

Denmark

Finland

France

Germany

Ireland

Italy

Mexico

Netherlands

New Zealand

Norway

Russia

Spain

Sweden

Switzerland

United Kingdom

United States

Microsoft’s disclaimer states, “Xbox One games are for activation and distribution only in specified geographic regions.”

What do you think Microsoft should do in this situation?
