Shuhei Yoshida announced at TGS that the PlayStation 4 will offer Gaikai streaming of PS3 games in North America come 2014. At the post keynote roundtable, Yoshida stated that a selection of streamed titles will be made available and that selection will grow over time.

He stressed that gamers want a decent selection of games at the service’s launch. He also noted that they will be playable on the PS4, PS Vita and PS Vita TV.

While they have plans for a North America launch, there is no word on when or if it would come to European launch. Gaikai in Europe doesn’t have a time frame due to broadband concerns across the territory.

One tactic that Microsoft has been using to boost the importance of their Xbox One, has been to combine the console with the power of cloud computing. Apparently, the Xbox One will be four times more powerful, due to cloud computing which explains why the device must always be online. The official website for the Xbox One states, “thanks to the power of the cloud, Xbox One will keep getting better.”

Will the PS4 have this power of cloud computing? President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida says “of course”, they will have this revolutionary cloud computing on its upcoming PS4 as well. Teaming up with Gaikai, the PS4 will be able to stream games from generations before due to the cloud computing.

Yoshida tells Polygon, “Linking, matchmaking… there are already many computations being done on the cloud side.”

Even though the PS4 doesn’t require the user to have an online connection, the president says, “if your title needs [an] online connection to provide some online features: Go for it.”

The Gaikai technology on the PS4 will be available sometime after the console is released.

So it seems that both consoles have the power of cloud computing, but which one will be better overall?

The most important gaming convention of the year is only a couple days away and our previous Pre-E3 articles consisted of the companies that are kicking off E3 by having a press conference for their new products, and we have been saving the best for last. We talked about Microsoft’s home entertainment system, EA’s exciting Star Wars news, Ubisoft’s CEO guarantees their upcoming titles to be more connected, immersive, and interactive for the next-gen consoles.

We have extremely high expectations for Sony and their next-gen console the PS4, which has been voted the most anticipated console over the Xbox One according to Digital Spy. PlayStation’s E3 2013 press conference will be on June 10th at 5:30 Pacific/8:30 Eastern, and the next three days after that, they are holding a PlayStation LiveCast show from the event. Check out the schedule below:

You can watch Sony’s live events taking place in multiple ways: PlayStation.Blog, PlayStation.com, Ustream, a virtual E3 booth in PlayStation Home, Facebook, Google Plus, PS Vita’s Nico Nico video app, and even on your PS3, look under your XMB’s What’s New section. Even if you miss the live event, the footage will be available on some of these websites for viewing later.

We are expecting Sony to show us the next-gen console, its price, and its release date. We would also want them to clarify on the confusion of used games. Is it going to be playable? Would we need to buy some code for it to work? It has been a question that even Microsoft hasn’t cleared up yet, so Sony can win big points for telling us their plans for used games.

Sony confirms that there will be over 40 games at the E3 event for the PS4, PS3, and the vita. Sony states, “Expect to see Beyond: Two Souls from Quantic Dream, Destiny from Bungie, DriveClub from Evolution Studios, The Evil Within from Tango GameWorks, Gran Turismo 6 from Polyphony Digital, inFAMOUS: Second Son from Sucker Punch Productions, Killzone: Shadow Fall and Killzone Mercenary from Guerrilla Games, The Last of Us from Naughty Dog, Tearaway from Media Molecule, Wolfenstein: The New Order from MachineGames and many, many more.”

The console itself may not have backwards compatibility, but with the power of cloud services Sony is teaming up with Gaikai, making it possible to stream games from previous generations before. Users will be able to try the games for free and purchase it whenever they please.

Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House, states that Gaikai will “deliver a world-class cloud-streaming service” with a “broad array of content ranging from immersive core games with rich graphics to casual content anytime, anywhere on a variety of internet-connected devices.”

E3 is usually an event that is closed off to the public, and the unique thing about Sony this year is that they are letting 40 PlayStation fans in to their live Press conference. Check out the invitation below:

It seems that Sony has a lot planned for this years E3 and beyond. We hope to see Sony hold their promise of keeping the PS4 a gaming platform, and reveal a new generation of gaming. Do you have high hopes for Sony?

Today during a round table session with media, Sony president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida fielded questions about a range of topics concerning the recently announced PlayStation 4 and the growing PlayStation ecosystem.

Check out Yoshida’s comments on a host of topics below.

Possibility of PS4 blocking used games

When you purchase the disc-based games on PS4, it should work on any hardware. So that’s what I’m saying.

Whether or not the PS Vita price cut in Japan will become effective worldwide

No, it’s not. It’s a region-by-region-based decision. Always.

Activation codes for secondhand PS4 titles

It’s a publisher decision. We are not talking about it. Sorry.

Sony’s decision not to show PS4 hardware during the announcement

I’m sorry we did not show the hardware. But we have plans from now–in February–through the year for the launch. We like to disclose things based on what we think we really want to communicate first. And next time we will talk about these things.

3D support for PS4

No, it’s not a focus, but it does [support 3D]. More games will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second, so it’s an easier and better experience when you watch on 3D TV. We like what we can do on PS3 using 3D, but now the consumer electronics side [of Sony Corp.] has shifted focus from 3D TV to something else, so if they are not talking about it, why are we?

4K support for PS4

The official answer is the PS4 supports 4K output, but does for personal content like photos and videos, not games. PS4 games do not work on 4K.

Support for legacy platforms now that the PS4 has been announced

So we have Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls coming out this year; these are pretty big titles. And after that we haven’t announced any new software for PS3.

The possibility of bringing PS3 titles to PS4

It’s an interesting concept. We’ve been upgrading PS2 games to PS3 with better resolution and better frame rate. And people love it. So I think at some point it makes sense and it’s great for developers to be able to develop some things that they missed or couldn’t get working properly on the older hardware because of the performance to be able to make it better for newer hardware. So we are open to look at that.

Gaikai integration for PS4 launch titles

So we are saying virtually every PS4 game will be playable on PS Vita via Remote Play. I would be heartbroken if it doesn’t day one. On day one, my expectation is that we have to have all games work on PS Vita.

Whether or not Sony would acquire Quantic Dream

We don’t look at developers in the world who are making great games for some other publisher and say, ‘We have to acquire them.” We never do that. The way we acquire developers, when we do, is the natural evolution of the relationship that develops. When it makes sense, we sign a deal. In terms of Quantic, we worked with them on Heavy Rain, and we are working with them on Beyond: Two Souls, and they are showing something very interesting on PS4. So we are definitely developing that stronger relations and we love them as well.

Possibility of PlayStation App store

Personally, I would like to see that. Our PlayStation Mobile is really targeting to do that so smaller developers can really publish from the countries we support. But on the console side, for the PS3 and PS Vita, we still treat publishing like our disc-based model in terms of certification, approval, quality assurance. So we are discussing internally how we can make it a bit more open or a bit easier especially for smaller developers to publish. Because we totally believe in the importance of supporting these smaller developers because they provide really unique and interesting ideas to the platforms.

What the PlayStation 4 Eye Camera is capable of

The PS4 Eye has two HD cameras, and these two cameras can be used in several different ways. One way is to use it for triangulation, so that space in front of the camera can be measured so that when you do this [motions with his hands] the game knows you are doing this. The other way is to make the augmented reality games like Wonderbook, using one camera for the video streaming, the other camera to…optimize for that task.

We totally believe in the importance of supporting these smaller developers because they provide really unique and interesting ideas to the platforms.

Whether or not the PS4 will be region-locked

I know the answer, but I don’t want to be quoted and get a call from my PR guy saying, ‘What did you say?’

Whether or not PSN will remain free for PS4

We totally believe that we want to provide more functionality and more services and more content on the network. And so we are looking at how we are going to structure that. And we are not ready to talk about that.

Possibility of backward compatibility for PS3 discs

No. You can quote me on that.

Whether or not the PS4 will make another appearance before E3

[Looks at PR rep] I hope not (laughs).

Whether or not The Last Guardian is still a PS3 game

I’m not ready to talk about it. Sorry. Because we’ve broken promises [before], we are waiting for the right time to reintroduce The Last Guardian.

Status of Rockstar’s Agent and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Versus

You are asking the wrong person. I have some knowledge, but I’m not in a position to talk about it.

Last week Wall Street Journal reported that the Playstation 4 will be capable of streaming the PlayStation 3 games. Today, According to the Wall Street Journal, the PS4 Will Be Able To Play PS3 Games And Optical Discs. Not only that, but the PS4 will also interact heavily with social services, and allow you to upload video directly on YouTube.

WSJ says this:

Since the acquisition [of Gaikai in July of 2012 for $380 million], Sony has been investing heavily to prepare Gaikai’s technology to enhance its new console, the people familiar with Sony’s plans said. Sony has been preparing the technology to be used to allow users to play current PlayStation 3 games on the device, making a broader array of titles available at the outset, these people said. The new device is also expected to play new games stored on optical discs.

The new PlayStation also will allow players to share achievements on social networks through smoother links to Facebook or Twitter, while also enabling aspects such as sharing footage of game play online through YouTube, people familiar with Sony’s plans said. Sony’s new console may also allow users to compete against others using different hardware, such as smartphones and other portable devices, those people said.

The Playstation 4 will be reveal on Wednesday, February 20th in New York city. Leave a comment let us what you think about this speculation
