DICE Next Gen PS4 To Use More GB For GameChanging
DICE took home the prize for “Best Technology” for its Frostbite 2 engine during the Game Developer’s Choice awards. DICE’s rendering architect Johan Andersson was asked what the next generation of consoles would need to include for Frostbite 2 to work ‘perfectly and as intended on high-end PCs.
“There are two things: memory and processing power,” Andersson said. “We need lots and lots of processing power. The more you can cram into a machine, we’ll take advantage of that. Two GBs would not be enough when it comes to RAM. Four GBs would work. Eight Gbs? Yeah. I think that would be perfect when it comes to memory.”
(System specifications for Battlefield 3 call for 4GB of RAM.)
Andersson says there are “quite a few games” currently in development using the Frostbite 2 engine, but he would not go into detail about currently announced titles. Recently, EA revealed both Medal of Honor Warfighter and Command & Conquer: Generals 2 will be built on the technology. When asked whether Mirror’s Edge 2 was running on Frostbite 2, Andersson quickly shot back: “If we were to build a Mirror’s Edge 2, it would use Frostbite 2.”

when is the ps4 comming out?
LOL more ram?there is absolute any game that needs 8 gigas of ram…
this is just marketing
If the RAM is there it will be used. The other side of the coin would you rather not have enough??
because when you add something that you dont need you are just doing it to increase the price of the console and to do marketing.
RAM is cheap, bring it on. When they buy it in bulk and solder it directly on to the board it probaby costs like $25 for 8 GB of RAM. When it’s on sale you can get regular PC RAM for that.
