Sony releases statement:Banning PlayStation 3 Hackers

Today Sony releases  a statement  to  permanently ban PlayStation 3 hackers. Sony confirmed that they Will ban People from using Custom Firmware.

official statement

Dear valued PlayStation®3 customers, Unauthorized software for the PlayStation®3 system was recently released by hackers. Use of such software violates the terms of the “System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation®3 System” and the “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation®Network/Sony Entertainment Network and its Community Code of Conduct provisions. Violation of the System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation®3 system invalidates the consumer’s right to access that system. Consumers running unauthorized or pirated software may have their access to the PlayStation®Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services through PlayStation®3 system terminated permanently. To avoid permanent termination, consumers must immediately cease using and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation®3 systems. In order to help provide a safe, fair, online environment, consumers who we believe violate “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation®Network/Sony Entertainment Network or the applicable laws or regulations of their country or region risk having access to the PlayStation®Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services terminated permanently.

  1. only harsh for those pathetic enough to have to hack and cheat.if your no good at something practice, cheating and hacking is for people who want to ruin stuff for everyone. Playstation network is for everyone not for just one person, shouldnt be corrupted by someone else’s short-comings

    1. The problem is that not only cheating in games is happening, there are some programs now that allow you to acess the PSN without actually having the Blu Ray Disc, you just need to download it to the system, and then you can acess it without any problems.

    2. I don’t hack but, the reason most of them do it is not to boost themselves up a level or whatever, if you have ever hacked (even a PC game) you would know how fun and funny it is hacking.

  3. Just because someone makes a custom firmware, doesn’t mean they are hacking a game for personal benefit, some of the custom things people have made for PS3 are fucking amazing, if im spending 300 dollars on a console, and as long as im not hacking the PSN or in game stuff I should be allowed to modify my console however I please, I know that is hard to regulate but still, I didn’t spend 300 on a console to be “borrowing” it, it is my console.

    1. I completely agree with you that once I pay for it I am allowed to do what I want with it; however, they didnt say anything about not moding their console. They simply said that if you want to use their service you wont alter your console. I can see their point of view to help protect the other consumers who use the network.
If they could only build an application or streaming service that would determine if the firmware you are running is acceptable to use over the PSN. They could have this done when you connect to PSN if your firmware is not “stock”

      1. You know, if the problem was just custom firmware to have fun with nobody would really care, myself included. However, the majority of people use this to their advantage and exploit online play which is unfair for everyone unless you wanna hack the ps3 system yourself. The exploiters are ruining online gaming as a whole and if everyone has to suffer not being able to use these special features that people are now abusing… so be it.

This is why people can’t have nice things.

        1. yes. you can do what you want with your console, but the NETWORK itself is being directly affected by these “custom firmwares”, which you did not buy. you dont own the network, therefore, you shouldn’t be creating anything that can directly affect it. and hacks aren’t funny. they may be for you, but all you do is ruin games for other people. so, Patrick Fowler, i agree with you 100%

          1. the sony is a company authoritarian, tyrant who does not respect their customers and if I buy a video game, it’s in my name, I paid and got right to modify itself as well as I want and the way I want and if the game companies do not want piracy they even have to create own software to defend themselves and not use the console to do this, do not have to be deprived of benefits by choosing to do what i wanted to do!!! I do not use custom firmwares and I think you should think about the sony’s poorest people who wish to have the console has no more money to pay for a game. like happens here in brasil.pelo less if the price of games were less

          3. Learn about copyright this isn’t something like linux the games you buy have another different policy about altering the product software

        2. I agree with you completely earlier this year my system got hacked because a hacker got mad that I was beating he erased everything I had earned in COD modern warfare 2 how was that just hack to make the game fun because quit frankly I was pissed. I was a 10 level prestige.

    2. Ok, you couldn’t be more wrong. You are obviously only thinking of your self and not thinking of the company, Sony. Sony can’t allow custom firmware on their consoles, because people are getting their games for free. Like I said in my comment above, they wouldn’t care about mods if it didn’t affect the network and people were not getting free games. I don’t care how much you paid for your consoles. A company won’t stand for you getting their products for free or using exploits on the network. I like mods, but what is better? Being able to play online with your friends, or being banned?

  4. This is really a disapointment but im happy because i won’t be hacked any longer but once apon a time i was playing cod waw and someone hacked it and for some reason i was banned so i just made a new account i hope if this happens again it wont happen to me

  6. guys… hacking and jailbreaking are two different things… I’m not in favor of hacking myself as it has its effects on other players i.e. no fair play.. but jailbreaking is different from that and does not include any harm to another ps3 consumer.

    1. But it does affect the company and then in turn affects the costumers. If say someone was able to download free games that originally costs 40$ then everyone gets a hold of that info then the company who made it AND sony would lose money which like I said will affect us because they all make the products. It isn’t that hard to realize. Hacking for the good is helping companies realize that there are flaws in their system so they can fix it. Hacking to get free games makes you look money desperate.. If you don’t want this economy to screw up then everyone needs to pay like everyone else.

      1. But that is just the hacking part, Jail breaking can be just as bad. It will always find a way to bite customers in the ass because of someone elses stupidity or misuse of power(skill).

    2. There banning of people who mess with the system is understandable and if they ever treat their customers unfairly is when we should complain but that hasn’t happened yet and trust me it has happened in the past and has been dealt with…

    3. Sony cannot tell one from the other. And if you were working at Sony, you wouldn’t want to spend your time, money and resources to tell one from the other either. Its too time consuming to do that. If a console is not running the same specs as it should, then BAM! Flag it and possible ban it. Its easier than trying to figure out whether whatever the console is running is going to be harmful to the community or not.

  7. You can hack or modify your PS3 as much as you want. This statement from Sony does not say that you cannot do that. Its is your personal property. You can do with it what you like. HOWEVER, you cannot expect to have access to Sonys online playstation network community because you are now logging in with a console with “abnormal” specifications. It doesn’t matter if you modified or hacked your console to help you cheat or just to be funny. Sony cannot tell one from the other. And as such, they have no choice but to revoke your access to the playstation network. It makes perfect sense. Think about it as if you were trying to run a online gaming networkd that would be 100% fair to all players. Are you going to spend your valuable time, money and resources to try and tell which hack is a cheating hack and which hack is just “to be funny”. HELL NO. It’s like going into a chat room and getting kicked for using foul language. The system doesn’t know if you were trying to use it in a serious context or just a funny context. The system will just kick you because its the easier of the two things to do and it takes very little resources for a pre-programmed system to do that.

  8. I’m using a hacked ps3 with custom frimware 3.55
And now i can get a game only in 2us dollars and no need to bye a game of 40 dollars
    or above.
Its good with hacked. But we cannot play online.

  9. here is south america there are no legal laws against piracy , people do dowgradre and install 3.55 software to run any ps3 game this new sofware was realease by annonynmus one month ago.

  10. If I am paying you a lot of money for your product why are you telling me what to do or not with my console?, with PSN is ok if you don’t want me to use it but make my whole console useless because you are not happy with how I use my own console, please make sense…. also you know a lot of consumers have some kind of custom firmware, what would have been with your earnings if many of these people didn’t buy you a console… A lot of money that you have comes from custom firmware players unlike the “hackers” because they give us their knowledge for free

  11. Well one of the main reason Sony is banning custom firmware is because people use it to get free game. I am sure they wouldn’t care, as long as people weren’t trying to get free games, or trying to hack or cheat on games. How would you feel if you owned a business and people were getting everything you have for free? I fully agree with Sony. Really, they don’t even have to release this statement. They can just change their policy and just start banning people that have custom firmware.
