China Makes Additional Comment On Video Game Ban Lift
Monday,January 13, 2014
Since 2000, China has placed a ban on all video games and consoles for the country. However, recently the country has lifted the ban and will start to regulate new consoles and video game titles into the region. Rules are being written out and slowly placed but not everything is openly spoken about quite yet. A recent press conference was held where China’s Ministry of Culture spoke about the video game ban lift, Cai Wu stated the following.
“Things that are hostile to China, or not in conformity with the outlook of China’s government, won’t be allowed. We want to open the window a crack to get some fresh air, but we still need a screen to block the flies and mosquitoes.”
The reason as to why the ban was placed in 2000 was to avoid the possible negative cultural impact video games could have had. Now it seems the country is establishing a rating system much like the formation of ESRB. A way in which video games were looked at and rated for potential audiences that the particular title seemed appropriate to view and play. Once more information is released on the new rules and regulations for video games to enter China, we’ll keep you updated.
